Fighting Words NI Awarded Funding by Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).

The Special EU Programmes Body has announced new funding awards from the €1.14bn PEACEPLUS Programme. A total of €13,321,097 has been approved to support a range of projects delivering formal and non-formal shared learning.

These projects are aimed at supporting school civic exchanges and collaboration between youth organisations on a cross-community and cross-border basis, whilst also including a focus on addressing educational disadvantage.

Fighting Words NI will be operating in a consortium partnership lead by YouthAction Northern Ireland as a part of one of the projects, A Shared Agenda for Peace.

Seven experienced community youth work and peace-building organisations (Northern Ireland/Ireland) will provide sustained support to over 5000 young people, and hundreds of local youth groups and youth leaders over four years. The consortium includes YouthAction NI, (Lead partner) along with Bytes Youth Project, Youth Work Ireland, YMCA Ireland, Corrymeela Community, Fighting Words NI, and YouthLink.

‘A Shared Agenda for Peace’ will support 240 local youth groups, 432 volunteers and workers, and 5,280 young people to cooperate and work together in non-formal shared education programming that supports new and sustainable relationships while building cross-community, cross-border good relations.

Fighting Words NI will be working with 16 local youth groups across four years in ‘Shared Learning Partnerships’ where two youth groups are partnered to bring communities and individuals together.

We will be working with 11-25-year-olds in three strands; young people, youth leaders, and organizational leaders. We will work in tandem with the youth group leaders to design and deliver a series of workshops that will develop the individuals involved, the process itself, and the youth organizations to ensure a lasting positive impact.

The groups will co-create their own course programmes, incorporating social action themes and peace-building frameworks, and attend a residential together.

The PEACEPLUS Programme has been designed to promote peace and prosperity across Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland and builds upon the success of previous EU PEACE and INTERREG Programmes.

PEACEPLUS is managed by the Special EU Programmes Body and is funded in partnership by the European Union, the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Government of Ireland and the Northern Ireland Executive.
